What I Hear From Patients
Most people describe one of a few things: a dull ache that builds after hours at a desk, a sharp catch when they bend or twist, or pain that travels into the hip or down the leg. Some have worked around it for years. Others tweaked something last week moving furniture or at the gym.
Whatever your version is, it's worth getting looked at. You don't need to wait until it's unbearable.
How I Figure Out What's Going On
I want to know when it started, what makes it worse, what you've already tried, and what you want to get back to doing. Then I look at how your spine and hips move, check strength and reflexes when it's appropriate, and use tests chosen for your symptoms.
I'll explain what I find in plain language. If anything suggests you need imaging or another provider, I'll tell you that too. An adjustment isn't automatically the answer.
What Care Looks Like With Me
Depending on what I find and what you're comfortable with, I may use chiropractic adjustments, the Activator or drop-table techniques, Graston soft-tissue work, Hypervolt percussion therapy, e-stim or kinesiology taping. I'll also give you a few exercises for home, because what you do between visits matters.
I'll always explain what I'm recommending and why, and you can ask questions or say no to anything. Read more about the techniques I use.
When to Skip My Office and Get Urgent Care
Go to the emergency room right away if back pain comes with loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, leg weakness that's getting worse, fever, or follows a serious fall or accident.
